The Yes Album - third studio album by progressive rock band Yes, released on Atlantic Records label in February 1971 in the UK and a month later - in the United States .
Unlike previous and subsequent work group , the album as a whole is designed in the spirit of classic rock early 1970s ( exceptions are instrumental «Clap» and song «A Venture» jazz - rock ) . The Yes Album was the first truly commercially successful disco group , reached the fourth place in the charts in the UK and fortieth place in the U.S. where it went platinum .
The most famous compositions of this album are «Starship Trooper» and «I've Seen All Good People», they often performed at concerts and included in many collections group. One of the favorite concert works Yes also became instrumental «Clap» with expressive solo on acoustic guitar of Steve Howe , in writing to The Yes Album is used concert version .
The Yes Album was recorded in October and November 1970 in a studio located in an old house on a farm in the county of Devon in southwest England. Steve Howe later bought the house together with the land and is currently living in it. The album became the first guitarist Steve Howe for in the group Yes, who came in place of Peter Banks , who participated in the recording of the first two albums , and the last - in the period of 1970 - for keyboardist Tony Kaye ( starting next album Fragile keyboards for Yes will play Rick Wakeman , Tony Kaye back in 1983 and will continue to work with the first album Yes 90125 ) .
