Description:
Temple of the Dog is an American grunge band from Seattle, which existed from 1990 to 1992.
The project was conceived by Soundgarden leader Chris Cornell as a tribute to his late friend, the vocalist Mother Love Bone, Andrew Wood, who died of a heroin overdose on March 19, 1990. In addition to Cornell, the Temple of the Dog includes former members of Mother Love Bone, Stone Gossard and Jeff Anment, the musicians of their new band Pearl Jam Mike McCready and Eddie Vedder, as well as another member of Soundgarden Matt Cameron. The name was chosen as the image from the song Mother Love Bone "Man of Golden Words" ("Seems I would be living in the temple of the dog." Where would I live, if I were a man of golden words? , At all? ").
The band released one album - Temple of the Dog, recorded over 15 days, from November to December 1990. It included the processing of old unused material Cornell, Gossard, Ament and Cameron; The core of the record was "Say Hello 2 Heaven", written by Cornell in honor of the deceased. The CD was released by A & M Records on April 16, 1991, after which the musicians returned to their main projects - Soundgarden and Pearl Jam.
Initial sales of Temple of the Dog were 70,000 copies and increased dramatically after the release of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden Ten and Badmotorfinger in August and October respectively. By September-October 1992 the album received platinum certification from the American and Canadian associations of record companies. The reaction of critics to the record was mostly positive, for example, the reviewer of Rolling Stone David Fricke wrote that the Temple of the Dog "deserves immortality." The musicians themselves were also satisfied with the work done, in particular, Chris Cornell confidently stated that "Andy would really like it"
