Description:
Fly by Night - the second studio album of the Canadian rock band Rush, released in February 1975.
The disc was recorded in Toronto Sound Studios. By this time, the studio has 16-track equipment. Fly by Night celebrated Terry Brown's debut as a producer - a role he will perform until the 1982 album Signals.
Fly by Night is Rush's first album with drummer Neil Pirt. In addition to playing the drums, Pirt also wrote texts. The band came to a more literary lyrical style, significantly different from the previous album. The songs "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" and "Rivendell" are examples of the inclusion of fantastic themes in the music of Rush.
The theme of the song "By-Tor and the Snow Dog" was prompted by Rush road manager Howard Angerleider, who told the musicians about how the German shepherd was bitten by him at the home of Anthem Records owner Ray Danniels, and another little white dog was trying to jump on him, that It seemed to them amusing. Howard called the By-Tor sheepdog, because she bit everyone who went into the house. Accordingly, he called the white dog Snow Dog.
The text of the song "Anthem" was written based on the book of the same name by writer Ain Rand, whose influence on Peart reached its apogee on the 1976 album "2112". The autobiographical "Fly by Night" is based on Pirth's impressions from moving from Canada to London (long before Rush), and "Making Memories" - on the impressions from the band's first concert tour. Manuscripts "Anthem" and "Fly by Night" include some pieces that are not included in the final tracks.
