Paying tribute to a giant of film music who passed away recently: Ennio Morricone wrote some of the most memorable film scores of the twentieth century including music to ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ and ‘Cinema Paradiso’. At a concert in Munich in 2005 the Italian composer conducted a selection of his classic compositions.

ARTE pays homage to one of the most important composers of the 20th century, Ennio Morricone. During this concert filmed in Munich in 2005, the Italian composer and conductor conducts his own compositions that have become film classics.

Under his direction, the orchestra and choir of Bayerischer Rundfunk perform some of the Italian composer's most famous pieces and melodies. Film scenes and an interview in which Ennio Morricone shares his understanding of music complete the programme.


Ennio Morricone is one of the most famous film music composers of the last 40 years: in February 2007 he received an Oscar in Los Angeles for his entire oeuvre. "Play Me the Song of Death", "Once upon a Time in America", "The Mission", "The Untouchables", "The Legend of the Ocean Pianist"? Music that has become cult.
